Unbelievable KAMENOI HOTEL BEPPU: Japan's Hidden Gem Awaits!
Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because we're diving headfirst into the steaming, soul-soothing, and slightly chaotic world of Unbelievable KAMENOI HOTEL BEPPU – and let me tell you, it lives up to the name. Seriously, this place… it’s something else.
First Impressions & Finding Your Feet (or Wheels!) - Accessibility and a Tiny Crisis
Let's be honest, sometimes getting around Japan can feel like a level in a video game, and the accessibility is…well, it varies. KAMENOI, though? They're trying. They've got a decent elevator, which is a massive plus when you're juggling luggage (and probably your sanity). Facilities for disabled guests are present, but I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm everything meets your specific needs. They don't shout about it, but they are making an effort, which is HUGE.
Getting airport transfer sorted is a godsend, particularly if you've just survived a long-haul flight. And car park [free of charge]? Yes, please! Seriously, parking fees in Japan will make your wallet weep. They even offer car power charging station, so you can keep your Tesla happy.
Here's a slightly messy anecdote, perfectly reflecting the spirit of this review. Arrived super-tired. Found the hotel. Thought I had to traverse some steep steps and nearly got lost. Turns out this could have been avoided if I had remembered to print my directions from google.
Rooms - The Sanctuary (and Getting Lost In Your Own Bathroom!)
Okay, the rooms? (Available in all rooms!) They’re… comfortable. Not necessarily minimalist chic, but definitely functional. Air conditioning is a given, thank God. Blackout curtains? Essential for battling jet lag. Coffee/tea maker is standard, but the complimentary tea was actually decent. One thing I loved? The bathtub! And the separate shower/bathtub. Luxury!
Here's the slightly embarassing part. My room was enormous, with an extra long bed, and a bathroom that felt like a small apartment. I swear, I got lost in there at least twice! The mirror was strategically placed for maximum vanity (hehe), and the hair dryer actually worked. Bathrobes and slippers? A big, fluffy yes. You also get essentials like a closet, and ironing facilities.
Now, the internet situation. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Hooray! Internet access – wireless and Internet access – LAN as well, so you’re covered whatever your digital needs. Internet is in general okay.
Cleanliness and Safety - (Finally!) a Sigh of Relief
After the initial panic, I calmed down and realized a HUGE priority for this hotel is safety. CCTV in common areas, CCTV outside property made me feel a lot safer as I went to explore the premises. Staff trained in safety protocol, smoke alarms, fire extinguisher… it's all there. They rooms sanitized between stays, and the anti-viral cleaning products gave me peace of mind. The hand sanitizer was everywhere (essential!).
On-Site Delights: Food, Pools, and the Sweetest Views
Alright, this is where KAMENOI really starts to shine. Let's talk food first, because, well, Japan!
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking is where the fun begins! I have to tell you they have a fantastic Asian breakfast. Which is a good way to wake up your taste buds. There is also a breakfast buffet, and, of course, restaurants. One of the restaurants serves Asian cuisine in restaurant. There's also Western cuisine in restaurant too, which, frankly, is a lifesaver after a few too many ramen bowls.
The Pool with view is just… magic. There is also a swimming pool [outdoor]. It’s the kind of view that makes you want to slap your face and say "pinch me!". I found the poolside bar very handy. And there is a snack bar for a quick grab.
Ways to relax - where do I begin?! Spa, Spa/sauna? Yep. Sauna? You betcha! Steamroom? Oh, it's all there. But the absolute champion is the foot bath. Seriously, I'd book a return trip just for that. Soak your weary travel-worn feet, gaze at the mountains, and let the world melt away. They also have a massage and body scrub. They even have a gym/fitness centre!
Services and Conveniences - The Little Extras That Matter
They've thought of a lot of services and conveniences. They offer luggage storage, and the daily housekeeping is impeccable. Daily disinfection in common areas is a huge plus. There is a concierge to help navigate the (sometimes confusing) world of Beppu. Want clothes cleaned? Laundry service and dry cleaning are available.
The Quirks and the Imperfections – Because Nothing’s Perfect (Except Maybe That Foot Bath)
Now, let's be honest…KAMENOI isn't perfect. Some areas feel a bit… old school. The decor isn’t exactly cutting edge.
But that's part of the charm! It's not trying to be something it's not. It’s a solid, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming place. And, let's face it, there's a raw, honest charm to that.
For the Kids! (Don't worry, Mom and Dad!) For the kids, Baby sitting service and Family/child friendly, are a relief for parents.

Columbia MD Getaway: Unbeatable DoubleTree Luxury Awaits!
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because this ain't your grandma's meticulously planned brochure itinerary. We're going to KAMENOI HOTEL BEPPU, in the steaming heart of Japan, and it's gonna be… well, it's going to be something. Prepare for a glorious mess.
Day 1: Arrival, Onsen Bliss (and a near-disaster with a vending machine)
14:00 - Landing in Fukuoka! Jesus, I love flying. I'm such a mess, but at least I'm excited mess. (Just hoping I don't get airsick this time). Seriously though, the Fukuoka airport is surprisingly… orderly. A good start. A good, non-sweaty, orderly start.
14:30 - The Train of Dreams (and Ramen Dreams!) Okay, so the train to Beppu. First, I had to figure out this whole Japanese train system. A little intimidating. The conductor looked like he was questioning my whole existence with one raised eyebrow. Thankfully, I found a friendly lady who spoke some English and she made the journey a breeze, I have to say the ease of the transport is the first of the amazing things that Japan has to offer.
- 16:00 - Ramen EMERGENCY! Upon arrival, I'm starving, starving, STARVING. Found a little ramen place near the hotel. OMG. The broth. The noodles. The… I'm actually having a moment. This is spiritual. Okay, maybe not spiritual, but seriously good.
17:00 - Check into Kamenoii Hotel. Whew! Okay, the room is… compact. But clean! And with an astonishing view of… a parking lot and what looks like a very angry crane. Not ideal. But the onsen… the onsen is calling. It's whispering sweet, steamy nothings.
18:00 - Onsen! Glorious Onsen! Okay, this is where it gets Real. Public bathing, naked. Terrifying, but exhilarating. The water is scalding, feels like molten silk. I accidentally splashed a local, and mumbled a thousand apologies (I think I said "sumimasen" at least fifty times). But the feeling… pure, unadulterated relaxation. Floating in hot, mineral-rich water, watching the steam swirl. Seriously considering moving in.
20:00 - Vending Machine Vendetta. This is where it gets tragic. I, a seasoned traveler, fell prey to the allure of a Japanese vending machine. Thirsty after the onsen. Thought, "Hey, a refreshing can of… something!" Inserted a coin. Nothing. Inserted another. Nothing. It ate my money, and I felt utterly defeated. I mean, the vending machine won! I sulked back to my room, defeated by a metal box. Note to self: Practice better vending machine skills.
21:00 - Bedtime. For Now.
Day 2: Jigoku Meguri (Hell Tour) and the Case of the Missing Sock (and Karaoke??)
- 08:00 - Breakfast! The hotel breakfast is… abundant. Rice, fish, miso soup, pickles… and the smell of bacon! This is great. I feel like I'm genuinely becoming a local.
- 09:00 - Jigoku Meguri (Hell Tour). Okay, this is the reason to come to Beppu. These aren't normal hot springs. These are hells. "Blood Pond Hell" is exactly what it sounds like – a crimson pool of boiling, bubbling water. The "Sea Hell" is a mesmerizing turquoise. These are so strange and stunning. The smell of sulfur is intense. I bought some hell-boiled eggs. Verdict: Egg-cellent.
- 12:00 - Lost and Found (My Sock Edition) After the hell tour, I wanted a snack so went to my room only to find my favorite sock was missing! I suspect it was the washer and dryer, I'll never know if I ever find it again!
- 13:00 - Lunch! I found a little sushi place. The sushi was fresh, the rice perfect. I'm starting to think I could live on sushi and ramen, at least for a week.
- 15:00 - More Onsen! Another soak. Needed to atone for my vending machine sins. Today, the steam felt like a warm hug.
- 18:00 - Karaoke… Maybe? The hotel has a karaoke room. The staff (sensing my inherent dorkiness, probably) practically begged me to try it. I'm a horrific singer. Absolutely tone-deaf. But… maybe. Just maybe. After a couple of plum wines… maybe.
- 20:00 - Dinner! I think I'll have some tempura. I love the tempura. I dream of the tempura.
- 21:00- Karaoke… or not? I chickened out. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe I'll never actually sing karaoke in Japan. Is that a failure?
- 22:00 - Bedtime. Deep sleep for this exhausted traveler.
Day 3: More Onsen, Departure, and the Bitter-Sweet Goodbye.
- 08:00 - Another Breakfast. Seriously, I'm eating so much rice.
- 09:00 - One Last Onsen. Gotta savour it. This is going to be the hardest part. Knowing I'm leaving. I don't know what to do with myself.
- 11:00 - Souvenir Shopping (and Emotional Turmoil) I need to buy gifts. But everything is so cute, I want it all! I also keep feeling all the emotions! I'm getting attached.
- 13:00 - Lunch at the Ramen Place (Again!) Gotta get my fix. Gotta say "goodbye" to those noodles. Gonna mourn that broth.
- 14:00 - Train to Airport
- 16:00 - Departure. Sigh. This trip was a mess, just like I am. But a beautiful, steaming, ramen-filled, onsen-soaked mess.
- 16:30 - One Last Vending Machine Attempt.
- 18:00 - Landing back home.
This is the best trip I've done. Goodbye for now Beppu!
… Okay, maybe I can't actually do a perfect itinerary. But I definitely made memories. Now where are my other sock?
